Rhinitis is when a reaction occurs that causes nasal congestion, runny nose and sneezing. The symptoms can also affect the eyes and throat. There are different types of rhinitis, the most common is allergic or seasonal rhinitis. There is also nonallergic or year-round rhinitis and other kinds such as infectious or vasomotor rhinitis. Symptoms can be mild to severe and may cause significant interference with your daily activities. There are medications that can treat rhinitis. They include decongestants and steroids. Decongestants narrow the blood vessels in the nose and reduce swelling. They can be bought over the counter in drugs such as pseudoephedrine (Sudafed 24 Hour) and phenylephrine. Steroids prevent and treat the swelling linked to some types of nonallergic rhinitis. They can be bought over the counter in sprays such as fluticasone (Flonase Allergy Relief) and triamcinolone (Nasacort Allergy 24 Hour). They can also be prescribed in a stronger form.후비루치료
Allergy-related rhinitis is triggered when your immune system sees something that shouldn’t be there and reacts by releasing histamine. Histamine causes the airways in your nose to swell up and produce mucus. It can also lead to itching in the nose and throat, watery eyes and a runny nose. Allergens that can trigger allergic rhinitis include pollen, mold spores, dust mites, pet dander, cockroach waste, cigarette smoke, fumes and odors, hormone changes and certain foods. It is usually categorized as either seasonal or perennial based on when the symptoms occur, although some people who have multiple allergy triggers may experience both types of allergies simultaneously.
Antihistamines taken by mouth usually don’t work as well for rhinitis as an antihistamine nose spray. Your doctor may prescribe a nasal spray such as azelastine (Astelin, Astepro Allergy), olopatadine hydrochloride (Patanase) or loratadine (Claritin). Nasal sprays are often more effective than taking them by mouth and can be used to treat both allergic and nonallergic rhinitis.
Nonallergic rhinitis is often caused by things like changes in barometric pressure, certain medications, or infections such as the cold. It can seem very similar to allergic rhinitis and it might take allergy testing to tell them apart.
The most common treatment for rhinitis is decongestants or antihistamines or a combination of the two. Some people find a steroid nose spray is very helpful too. The most powerful steroid is triamcinolone (Nasacort), which can be prescribed by your doctor. It is available in a spray, tablet and oral solution. Your doctor will determine the best type of medication for you and your rhinitis based on the results of your allergy test and a detailed history of your symptoms. The goal of treatment is to reduce your symptoms and improve your quality of life. If your symptoms don’t improve, your doctor may decide to do a steriod injection. This is a more intensive treatment option that can be done in the office and involves injecting a small amount of the allergen into your sinuses. It can be extremely effective, but it is only recommended for those who have not responded to other treatments.라경찬한의원
